Owner & Psychotherapist

Believing in positive transformation is the first step!

Do you experience anxiety or depression that hinders you from thriving in life? How about struggling to communicate with family members? Do you and your significant other go through daily life feeling like its the same story, different day? Does your child have a difficult time with their daily function in or out of school?  As a parent, do you feel defeated when your child shuts down, acts out of anger and won’t talk to you about it?  When you are overwhelmed with these emotions, creating a validating and calm space is important.  Therefore; if you are a parent/guardian or are struggling with family members, we will work together to make that change. We must work as a team for you to grow and achieve strong relationships. Counseling services will provide you with the tools needed for you and your family.

In working with clients for over 14 years; I use evidence-based interventions. I am board-certified to provide psychotherapy and Telemental Health services in the states of Wisconsin and Illinois. Since 2005, I have been a school counselor at a middle school serving students, parents, and administration. Having a special interest in working with at-risk youth, school refusal issues, ADHD and Autism; I assist in making the educational experience more enjoyable for both the parents and children. With me by your side, you don’t need to navigate these struggles on your own.

My passion is to work with adults and children that have concerns related to:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Couples
  • ADHD
  • Autism-Processing Concerns
  • Parent/Child Relationships
  • Behavioral and Discipline Management
  • Life Transitions
  • School Refusal
  • Chronic Health Management

Lakes Counseling Center provides services in Elkhorn, Wi as well as Telemental Health. As a Board Certified Telemental Health Specialist, I am passionate about the benefits that it has to offer. Online counseling has been proven to be effective on many levels. It provides counseling to those that are bound by the home, live in rural areas and have busy schedules that don’t allow for an office visit.

As a breast cancer survivor, I have gained insight into what it means to have worries or struggles that come with the disease. Individuals will connect with their inner strengths and achieve their goals while in the therapeutic process. I want you to be able to move forward with living life, instead of just surviving it. Having someone that understands the nuisances of cancer will make a large impact on how you cope with the disease.

Treatment Methods in Therapy:

My focus is to create a comfortable and therapeutic environment. The goal is to empower you to make positive changes. In addition to traditional psychotherapy; cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused methods are utilized. Mindfulness strategies will also be incorporated into therapy. If you are looking to uplift your mood, reduce stress and anxiety; contact me to schedule an initial consultation. The free 15-minute consultation can be a video conference or through the phone.

You have the power to create change in your life and relationships!

Katie Badeau- Pic

Have you ever struggled with feeling like you don’t have the same spark for life that you once had? Do your worries or nerves keep you from enjoying activities or relationships with the important people in your life? Are your relationships distant or detached? Does your family struggle to stay on the same page and keep things cohesive? Sometimes it can feel like the tough spots in life last longer or pile up more quickly than we would like. Together we can create a space to work through these challenges and create lasting change in your life and relationships. In therapy, we will work together to help you cultivate the skills you need to reconnect with yourself, your life, and the relationships you cherish.

I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies before moving to Illinois to study Marriage and Family Therapy at Northern Illinois University. My training as a Marriage and Family Therapist taught me to view the struggles each of us manage as a symptom of a larger systemic issue, that can be addressed by creating meaningful change in relationships. I have completed training in Prepare & Enrich (pre-marital counseling) and have been trained in levels 1 and 2 of the Gottman Method (couples therapy).

My passion is to work with individuals, couples, and families that have concerns related to:

  • Couple or family relationships
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Grief and Bereavement
  • Pre-marital
  • Life Transitions
  • LGBTQIAP+ Issues
  • Codependency

Treatment Methods in Therapy:

As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe that our relationships play an important role in every aspect of our lives. Understanding the influence of our relationships can bring emotions that are challenging to confront. It is my goal to provide you with space where you feel safe to address these feelings and begin creating positive patterns of communication by establishing healthy boundaries.  I use a warm, and empathetic, but honest approach to help you get the most out of our work together. I have experience with a variety of clinical models and will modify my approach to your individual needs. I believe the most important part of our work together is to develop a collaborative relationship that empowers you to begin your journey towards your own health and happiness.
